History of the L'Équipe Morzine hotel

The Team: A hotel since 1957 with a family history since 1933!

It was in 1933 that the Béard family decided to settle in Morzine. Pierre Béard, a lemonade maker, and his wife Odette Maillard left Évian to settle in Morzine with their son Pierre-Louis, then one year old. They bought a plot of land and built a small wooden garage on it.

Meanwhile, in 1934, the Heckel company of Saarbrücken began construction of the Pléney cable car in Morzine. It was inaugurated in January 1935 by the Minister of Labour, Paul Jacquier. At the time, it was the third cable car in France dedicated to winter tourism.

During World War II, Pierre and Odette closed their garage and went into exile in Switzerland after being denounced. Upon their return to Morzine, they discovered their garage had been looted, but they didn't give up and redoubled their efforts to restart their business.

In 1950, they expanded the garage by acquiring an adjacent plot of land, which allowed them to build a bar there. At that time, Morzine was among the most important resorts in the Northern Alps, after Megève and Chamonix.

However, on January 21, 1956, a fire destroyed everything. While Pierre and Odette considered returning to Évian, their only son, Pierrot, insisted on staying in Morzine.

Having met Adèle Richard, who would become his wife, he decided to rebuild a hotel on the ruins. With the help of an architect, Pierrot designed the plans, and the new bar opened its doors on December 15th of that year.

Pierrot and Adèle then took over the management of the hotel, which, at the end of the 1960s, had a total of 35 rooms. The years passed, and the establishment continued to develop: expansion, swimming pool, ski room, and many other improvements.

In 1993, Patrick, Pierrot's son, and Annabel, his wife, took over the management of the hotel. Under their management, the establishment underwent a significant phase of modernization.

new generation
In 2005, they launched a vast renovation plan: creation of a squash court, construction of a two-level underground parking lot in 2006, redesign of the gardens in 2007, addition of a fitness room in 2008, and creation of six additional bedrooms in 2009, two of which are adapted for people with reduced mobility.

renovation
Between 2011 and 2016, several major modifications were made: the rooms were enlarged, duplex rooms were created, the facades were renovated, and a fourth floor was added. In 2016, the south wing was also remodeled with the addition of spacious 50 m² suites and a gable roof.
